Pacifist is a shareware application that opens Mac OS X .pkg package files, .dmg disk images, and .zip, .tar, .tar.gz, .tar.bz2, and .xar archives and allows you to extract individual files and folders out of them. Versions of Pacifist can be downloaded for running on Mac OSs from Mac OS X 10.2 'Jaguar' to macOS 10.15 “Catalina”, and perhaps newer.
Besides being able to open multiple archived file format types, Pacifist (v2.5+) is the only Mac OS X app I know of that can correctly open and extract MacZip format '.zip' files.
